Day 01 :

Arrival in Phuentsholing & Transfer to Thimphu

Morning:
- Arrival in Phuentsholing: Upon arrival at Phuentsholing, a bustling border town located at the southern gateway to Bhutan, you will be greeted by your guide. Phuentsholing is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas and is an entry point for travelers coming from India.
- Immigration and Customs Formalities: You will complete the necessary immigration and customs procedures. Ensure you have all the required documents for entry into Bhutan.
Afternoon:
- Drive from Phuentsholing to Thimphu: After completing the formalities, you'll start your scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital. The distance between Phuentsholing and Thimphu is approximately 145 kilometers and takes around 5-6 hours. The journey will take you through beautiful landscapes, winding roads, and traditional villages. You’ll pass through lush forests, terraced fields, and picturesque valleys.
- Arrival in Thimphu: Check-in to your hotel upon arrival. Enjoy the evening at leisure, taking in the beauty of the capital city.
Evening:
- Overnight stay in Thimphu: After a long day of travel, rest and enjoy a comfortable overnight stay in Thimphu.

Day 02 :

Day Excursion to Dochula Pass

Morning:
- Drive to Dochula Pass (3,100m): After breakfast, depart Thimphu and head towards Dochula Pass, which is about 30 kilometers and 1 hour away from Thimphu. Dochula Pass is famous for the 108 stupas, which were built in honor of the Bhutanese soldiers who lost their lives during the military conflict in 2003. The pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan mountain range on a clear day.
- Dochula Stupas and Scenic Views: Spend some time at Dochula Pass, taking in the serene atmosphere and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. You can also visit the Druk Wangyal Lhakhang, a monastery located near the pass.
Afternoon:
- After having tea, coffee, snacks or lunch head back to Thimphu.
- Sightseeing in Thimphu: After reaching Thimphu in the afternoon, explore some of the city’s famous landmarks like the Buddha Dordenma statue, Memorial Chorten, or the Thimphu Dzong.
Evening:
- Overnight in Thimphu: Return to Thimphu in the evening for an overnight stay. Enjoy a delicious dinner at a local restaurant, where you can sample traditional Bhutanese dishes called ema datshi (chili and cheese) and etc...

Day 03 :

Return to Phuentsholing.

Morning:
- Breakfast and Check-out: After breakfast at your hotel, check out and begin your journey back to Phuentsholing. The drive back will take approximately 5-6 hours, retracing your route along scenic roads with spectacular views of valleys, rivers, and terraced fields.
Afternoon:
- Lunch and Scenic Stops: You may stop along the way for lunch or take brief breaks to enjoy the natural beauty of Bhutan’s landscapes. You’ll pass through the quaint towns and villages, with opportunities to photograph the unique Bhutanese architecture and lifestyle.
Evening:

Arrival in Phuentsholing: You will arrive in Phuentsholing by evening, where your tour concludes. Depending on your travel schedule, you may have time to explore the town or relax before continuing your onward journey.

NOTE: The itinerary may vary depending on whether the guest arrives in Bhutan via Paro Airport. Therefore, the company will tailor the itinerary to include destinations based on the guest's preferences.

How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason.

It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.
